I’m Professor Edward Monaghan, Owner here at Ekata Training Center.
As a martial arts instructor with extensive experience training kids, there is nothing better than seeing them grow firsthand.

STRONG MINDS & BODIES
Mindfulness:
All physical activities at Ekata are based on the principles of mindfulness. Mindfulness practice trains the brain and strengthens the neo-cortex, which is responsible for emotional regulation, attentiveness along with developing and compassion for others.
The Impulsive/Action Gap:
Ekata’s Dragons JKD program trains kids’ brains to widen the gap between impulse and action. This is a crucial time to learn about controlling impulsive behavior and making good choices.

Ekata Jeet Kune Do Youth Curriculum
Our character training and school-safe/street-safe program encourages a positive, compassionate social interaction with self-defense skills training. Our Dragons Jeet Kune Do classes have a structured curriculum that teaches students to be well rounded in MMA by the time they approach their Black Belt.
1ST YEAR -
JEET KUNE DO
The root of our martial arts instruction stems from Bruce Lee’s Jeet Kune Do. In Jeet Kune Do, students learn practical techniques for self-defense while maintaining the humility and respect of traditional martial arts training. During the first year, all students develop fundamental striking and self-defense skills.
2ND YEAR -
SAVATE
In the second year, our students begin to learn a unique form of French Kickboxing called Savate from our World Champion co-founder, Sifu JoAnn Wabisca. This trains them to gain proficiency in long and medium range striking techniques.
3RD YEAR -
JIU JITSU/ JUDO
In the third year, students learn a blend of Judo and Jiu Jitsu. These arts focus on the development of throwing, grappling/ground fighting skills.
4TH YEAR -
MMA
In their fourth year and beyond, the students learn to bring it all together in an intense but FUN Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) based format that challenges them physically and mentally. Instruction incorporates realistic self-defense training, sparring, and character training.

Our martial arts classes for kids are full exercise routines disguised as a boatload of fun! That’s because they are jam packed with activities, games and drills that are all designed to disguise the repetition of training.
Of course it’s important for your kids to exercise and wear themselves out – they stay healthy, sleep well, and develop their minds and bodies. But just as important, our classes will help develop at a young age the physical habits they need to grow into healthy adults.

Children are like sponges. They absorb things quickly and easily – far more easily than we do as adults. In fact, parents can sometimes see a difference in their kids after just one martial arts class. Each additional class they attend increases their knowledge and growth.

That’s why our martial arts training is very serious about teaching your kids the skills needed for self-protection in any circumstance, from the neighborhood bully to a stranger on the street (and so much more).
But knowing how to defend oneself is only half the battle. Our classes teach your child the respect and self-discipline needed to diffuse a situation without violence whenever possible – as well as the knowledge to know when force is the only way to safety.

We can’t guarantee that their normal school teachers are making learning an enjoyable experience, but we DO guarantee that your kid will have a blast in our martial arts classes.
It really is a challenge to design a class that keeps children focused on learning, respect, and discipline while still having fun… but our classes are created just for that. They are so full of ideas, activities, and games that your kids will never get bored or stagnate.

NURTURING & ENRICHMENT
MUSIC LESSONS:
In keeping with our fundamental philosophy of training the brain and creating balance in our lives, Ekata offers music lessons for children and adults to nurture the creative essence. Most children and adults are so concentrated on analytic left brain-based activities that creative pursuits are forgotten. Music helps teach patience, mindfulness and nurtures the oft neglected right hemisphere functions of the brain.

Our Ekata Care program offers much more than babysitting. Ekata is a 21 century conservatory! Our kids learn how to create a balanced, healthy body, and mind through the study of mindfulness-based meditation, art, music, theater, martial arts, physical training, our special “life skill” program, and many more enrichment classes. We are the ONLY state licensed after care program in Santa Clarita offering extensive physical training, martial arts, and behavioral training for children!
