STRENGTHENING BODIES & BALANCING MINDS
Mindfulness:
All physical activities at Ekata are based on the principles of mindfulness. Mindfulness practice trains the brain and strengthens the neo-cortex, which is responsible for emotional regulation, attentiveness along with developing and compassion for others.
The Impulsive/Action Gap:
Ekata’s Teens JKD program trains teens’ brains to widen the gap between impulse and action. This is a crucial time to learn about controlling impulsive behavior and making good choices.
Movement Training:

EKATA TEENS JEET KUNE DO CURRICULUM
Our character training and school-safe/street-safe program encourages a positive, compassionate social interaction with self-defense skills training. Our Teens Jeet Kune Do classes have a structured curriculum that teaches students to be well rounded in MMA by the time they approach their Black Belt.
1ST YEAR -
JEET KUNE DO
The root of our martial arts instruction stems from Bruce Lee’s Jeet Kune Do, also known as the “original” martial art. In Jeet Kune Do, students learn practical techniques for self-defense while maintaining the humility and respects of traditional martial arts training. During the first year, all students develop a base of experience in our JKD classes.
2ND YEAR -
SAVATE
In the second year, our students begin to learn a unique form of French Kickboxing called Savate from our World Champion co-founder, Sifu JoAnn Wabisca. This trains them to gain proficiency in long and medium range striking techniques.
3RD YEAR -
JIU JITSU
In the third year, students learn Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. The art focuses on development of grappling/ground fighting skills.
4TH YEAR -
MMA
In their fourth year, students will learn an intense but FUN form of martial arts that challenges them both physically and mentally, known as MMA (Mixed Martial Arts). Instruction incorporates the fundamentals of sparring and close-range trapping techniques.
RAISING A TEENAGER REQUIRES PERSISTENCE & PATIENCE
It can test your sanity even at the best of times. Yet, you want the best for your teenager. You want them to have the tools they need to succeed now and later in life – and you’d like that to happen without having to pull out all your hair in the process. Getting them to do anything you want them to do can feel utterly impossible, and you’re not sure where to start.
Studying Jeet Kune Do helps teens learn how to overcome their problems and learn important lessons – the kind of lessons that will follow them to your home, to the classroom, and for the rest of their lives.
LEARN THE VALUE OF RESPECTING THEMSELVES & OTHERS
Teens sometimes seem to be all attitude and no respect – in fact, it can seem like they go out of the way to respect all authority figures.
At Ekata Training Center, respect is a core discipline. Students must treat their instructor and fellow students with respect at all times.
Ultimately, teens who study martial arts learn that when they respect themselves, others will respect them, too.
YOUR TEEN WILL GROW WITH EVERY CLASS!
Teenagers who study Jeet Kune Do learn the benefits of self-control and discipline with every lesson. Our classes emphasize core values like discipline, respect, and persistence. Students learn that the way they treat others – in and out of the dojo – reflects on them as people and affects their ability to achieve their goals.
We offer additional nurturing and enrichment programs/services to help further character development in our students.
Lessons
Most adults and children are so concentrated on analytic left brain based activities that creative pursuits are forgotten. Music helps teach patience, mindfulness, and nurtures the often neglected right hemisphere functions of the brain. Ekata offers music lessons to adults and children to nurture their creative essence.
30-Minute Lessons: $35
60-Minute Lessons: $60
Our Ekata Care program offers much more than babysitting. Ekata is a 21st century conservatory! Our kids learn how to create a balanced, healthy body and mind through mindfulness-based meditation, art, music, theater, martial arts, physical training, our special "life skills" program, and many more enrichment classes. We are the ONLY state-licensed Aftercare (After-school) program in Santa Clarita offering extensive physical training, martial arts, and behavioral training for children!
JUDGMENT IS AN ESSENTIAL SKILL IN MARTIAL ARTS
Whether they’re in a Jeet Kune Do class or in a competition, the difference between a good performance and a poor one often comes down to judgment.
Students learn how to make judgments on the fly using the information they have on hand in conjunction with their training.
They also learn how to differentiate between good instincts and bad ones – and to use that information to make judgments.
GET YOUR KIDS OFF THE COUCH AND INTO MARTIAL ARTS
It might seem like your teenager would happily spend all day sitting on the couch playing video games or posting on social media.
The electronics epidemic might be a good thing in many ways, but teenagers still need physical activity to stay fit and healthy.
Jeet Kune Do classes provide teens with challenging workouts in a fun, social setting that rivals any video game.
HOW TO SET (AND ACHIEVE) GOALS
Teens sometimes seem not to care about setting goals either in the short-term or the long-term.
The study of martial arts requires them to pursue goals on a regular basis. Each skill they learn, and each belt they earn, represents a goal that they have achieved.
Goal-setting in this way provides teens with the tools they need to set achievable goals in school, at home, and in life.
